While braces may be a classic stop on the adolescent journey of a teenager, they come with their share of annoyances; the “biting” nicknames (see what I did there), the sliced up lips, and a complete inability to rid yourself of food from your previous meal without an intense brushing/flossing session. As an adult who might not have had braces as a teen, but feel that you need them now, being fitted for them at this stage of life and taking a retroactive trip back through middle school might not sound too appealing. If this sounds like you, then we have a product that just might help to alleviate those worries: Invisalign! All the benefits of braces, none of the gawkiness.
Designed with you in mind, Invisalign is virtually invisible, allowing your orthodontist to move your teeth into the proper positions without forcing you to deal with the repercussions of having brace face.
How does it work?
Well, if the name wasn’t enough of a giveaway, the Invisalign system is comprised of a virtually invisible thermoplastic material that was designed specifically for moving your teeth into their proper placement without ruining your day to day smile. Your orthodontist will map out your teeth and put together a series of Invisalign aligners that are custom-made for your mouth to move them into the proper sequencing. Over the course of the treatment, your orthodontist will give you a supply of aligners that make incremental adjustments to the tooth’s position through the use of an appropriate amount of controlled force, following the layout mapped out in the beginning of the process.
Approximately every two weeks, you move onto the next set of aligners; each stage of the process will move specific portions of your smile over time, ensuring that no tooth will end up spoiling your new smile.
What are the benefits provided by Invisalign?
As previously mentioned, Invisalign is virtually invisible, meaning that you won’t have to worry about showing off braces at your workplace or on your romantic date. Additionally, Invisalign can be removed, and although it is essential that you wear them at least twenty-plus hours a day, that still leaves you plenty of time to eat and drink your favorite foods and beverages without having to worry about what might be stuck in there later. There are also no metal brackets or wires that can irritate your mouth, helping to prevent the mouth sores often associated with braces and reducing the number of visits you need to make to the dentist for tightenings.
Finally, Invisalign allows you to look over your treatment plan and see what the finished product will look like, allowing you to preview your new smile from the get-go instead of imagining what you’ll wind up with.
